Roy Consultants played an important role in the development of this approximately 7-million dollar project in the Chaleur region. Those services were offered under the management of DF Architecte Inc. for the New Brunswick Department of Supply and Services.
The first phase of the project consisted of site preparation through a massive excavation and structural backfill. The poor bearing capacity of the original soil found on the selected site created this important engineering challenge.
The second phase consisted of the construction of a 26-room elementary school devoted to students from kindergarten to grade 5 of the Bathurst School District No. 15. This non-combustible, two-story, 4700-square meter building is equipped with sprinklers.
Our multidisciplinary expertise was solicited for the design of all aspects of this project’s engineering, including site layout (excavation, borrow pit, wastewater collection, water supply, access road, parking area, sidewalks, curbs, soccer field, seeding, asphalt paving, pavement marking and signage) and the construction of a building (foundation, structural steel, masonry, plumbing, ventilation, fire protection, lighting, heating, power and communications).
The work, which started in the fall of 2005, was completed in the summer of 2007, just in time for the start of the new school year.
